Lore

The window had shown birds, flowers, and a feeder for years. Miso suspected it was withholding something. Mochi suspected the birds were the important part.

One evening, the last sunbeam met the first moon reflection beneath their paws. The glass opened. Beyond it, gardens floated above clouds and paths ran between islands that had no intention of coming down. The window had been saving a very good view.

Miso took the bright paths. Mochi checked the resting places. Dawn stayed at one edge of the sky while evening occupied the other. Nobody managed to settle whose turn it was, so the flowers enjoyed both.

From there, the sisters could visit more worlds than they could name. They still returned to the familiar sill. A doorway is a splendid discovery. Knowing someone expects you back through it may be even better. Outside the ordinary side, the birds continued their business, unimpressed by the promotion.
