Miso — Sunshadow Shinobi

Sunshadow Shinobi

Lore

Miso learned stealth by watching a sunbeam leave the rug. No footsteps. No farewell. Just warmth, then elsewhere. She practiced until even her shadow began arriving a little late.

Soon afterward, somebody stole the doorways of Windowland. Kitchens opened into yesterday’s weather. A trip downstairs became difficult to schedule. Miso put on her indigo wraps and followed the missing frames across the roofs.

She found them hanging above the city, each holding a room that wanted to go home. She worked quietly, returning the paths one by one. There are occasions for a grand entrance. Repairing everyone else’s entrances is not necessarily one of them.

By morning, the households fitted together again. Nobody applauded because most people had slept through the rescue. Miso considered this a satisfactory result. The sunbeam returned to the rug. She sat beside her old teacher and said nothing.
