Winter solstice · Scandinavian warmth
Winter woods / resin / soft smoke
Green branches carrying a pocket of cold air.
Amber warmth resting against dry wood.
A thin ribbon of smoke, going nowhere in particular.
Gentle sweetness that knows when to stop.
Fir carries the cold to the doorstep. Cognac-warmed oak, a thread of smoke and restrained vanilla answer from inside. The longest night is still long. It is simply no longer empty.

BEHIND THE EDITION
On the longest night, Miso counted the stars until she reached a number she considered sufficient. Mochi counted the warm chairs. The figures differed, but both surveys agreed that someone ought to stay by the fire.
They set a little amber light inside walnut and glass. A snowflake settled on the cord without melting; the sun, Earth and moon made their patient circuit around the cap. Outside, the world leaned toward another morning. Inside, a very small cat had occupied the best blanket.
Solstice Ember keeps that interval between the cold window and the warm room. It shares the special shelf with Gather Autumn, because even seasons occasionally need company. Miso keeps the label facing forward. Mochi keeps the room occupied.
