BEHIND THE EDITION
The North Pole terminal had stopped at PLEASE WAIT, with Christmas halfway down the delivery queue. Miso put one dark paw on the keyboard. Mochi put another on the warm screen. Between them, they made a fairly complete technical department.
They carried the stalled evening home in a little black-armored bottle. Red light followed its seams; green snow drifted behind the glass. Two small faces watched over the atomizer, and a helmet charm swung from the strap, guarding a password everyone had forgotten. Mochi suggested trying SNACKS. The machine found this persuasive.
Outside, the stars were still delivering light across distances no sleigh could manage. Inside, the terminal finally printed one instruction: KEEP SOMEONE WARM. Miso approved the revised system. Mochi lay across the paperwork until spring.
