The first issue of SHREDDER records Miso’s Double Darkslide. Mochi is riding on her back. Gravity has submitted several objections, none in time to be helpful.

Their translucent red wheels skim a route that sensible maps decline to print. Below them, the stairs wait with the patient confidence of stairs. Miso chooses the landing. Mochi holds on and offers advice that mostly consists of her sister’s name.

The magazine passes from paw to paw beneath the respectable streets. Tilt its pages and hidden rails catch the light. A scribble becomes a route. A reader begins wondering whether an ordinary corner has another way through it.

Far above the pavement, stars continue shining without concern for the landing. Mochi cares about the landing very much. Miso makes sure they both reach it. The photograph is spectacular. The moment just afterward, when they check that each other is all right, does not need a photograph.
