Magic — Wizard of Lakeway Estate

Lore

Magic travels on a red mushroom with white spots. It floats. People ask many questions about this, although they seldom ask the mushroom whether it had planned on carrying a large cat.

He watches the Ember Paths beyond Lakeway’s lanterns. Copper shows through his dark tortoiseshell coat. His amber eyes find the frightened creature beneath the root before his impressive reputation gets there. The reputation can wait. The creature is cold.

His woodland magic lets Lakeway take the shape of a living treehouse. The familiar hearth remains inside. Branches carry lantern bridges; the household carries on. Moving the front door into a tree has made visitors more attentive to directions.

Miso and Mochi know him as their brother. He lowers the mushroom so Mochi can inspect it, takes Miso’s watch when she is tired, and brings news from distant clearings. The woods contain more lives than he will ever meet. He leaves their roots undisturbed as he passes. Having unusual transport is no excuse for poor manners.
